What is it like to work at HoneyTree Therapy?

HoneyTree Therapy Center is a growing group practice in Columbia, Maryland. We help growing people grow by providing thoughtful, practical therapy for children, teens, young adults, adults, and families. We're looking for a warm, dependable, Spanish-fluent Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) who wants to grow clinically while helping clients and families navigate life's challenges.

This is a W-2, part-time position with opportunities to grow as school-based partnerships and the office caseload develop. You'll have support with referrals, scheduling, documentation systems, insurance billing, and clinical development so you can focus on providing quality care.

Is this position only school-based?

No. School-based counseling is an important part of the role, but you'll also work with HoneyTree clients in our Columbia office. Office appointments help you build your caseload while school partnerships develop.

Who does HoneyTree serve?

HoneyTree works with children, teens, young adults, adults, and families experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, school challenges, relationship difficulties, self-esteem concerns, and life transitions.

Do I need to provide Christian counseling?

You must be comfortable incorporating Christian faith into counseling when a client requests it. HoneyTree serves people from a variety of backgrounds, and care should always respect each client's beliefs, preferences, and treatment goals.

What credentials do I need?

You must hold an active Maryland Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) license and have a master's degree in counseling or a related field that meets Maryland licensing requirements.

Is Spanish fluency required?

Yes. Professional fluency in both spoken Spanish and English is required. You must be comfortable conducting therapy sessions and communicating with clients and families in either language. Written Spanish proficiency is a plus.

Do I need experience working with children and teens?

Experience with children, teens, or families is helpful. You should be interested in working with younger clients and collaborating with parents, caregivers, and school personnel when clinically appropriate.

Do I need my own transportation?

Yes. Reliable transportation is required because the position involves traveling between school sites and HoneyTree's Columbia office.

What other qualifications are important?

We're looking for someone who is warm, dependable, organized, receptive to feedback, and committed to ethical, evidence-informed care. You should be comfortable maintaining timely documentation, communicating professionally, and participating in weekly clinical supervision.

Is this a part-time or full-time position?

This is a part-time position with the opportunity to grow as client demand and school-based partnerships develop. We want to build a sustainable schedule that works for both the clinician and the practice.

What hours do I need to be available?

Availability during daytime school hours is important for school-based counseling. You must also be available for at least two afternoons or early evenings per week to see office clients.

How late might I work?

Office appointments may begin as late as 6:30 PM, with sessions ending by 7:30 PM.

Will I have a set schedule?

Yes. We'll agree on recurring weekly availability blocks so schools and clients can count on a consistent schedule. We'll work together to establish those blocks based on school needs, office appointments, and your availability.

Will I travel between school sites and the office?

Yes. Travel between assigned school sites and HoneyTree's Columbia office may be required. Travel time between a school and the office is paid at $16 per hour, subject to applicable timekeeping and payroll requirements.

What clients will I work with?

Interns primarily work with children and teens.

Are sessions one hour?

Yes. Sessions are typically one hour.

How does documentation work?

HoneyTree uses TherapyNotes EHR, which makes documentation efficient and manageable. Interns complete notes promptly following sessions.

Will I receive weekly supervision?

Yes. Weekly clinical supervision is part of the position and supports your development as an LGPC. Supervision provides space to discuss cases, strengthen clinical skills, review treatment approaches, and work through questions that arise in practice.

What can I bring to supervision?

You can bring case conceptualization questions, intervention ideas, challenging sessions, documentation questions, ethical concerns, and situations involving parents, schools, or other providers. Supervision is also an opportunity to identify your strengths and areas for continued growth.

Will I be expected to work independently?

You'll be responsible for managing your assigned clients, documentation, and professional communication. However, you're not expected to know everything or navigate challenging clinical situations without support. We value clinicians who are thoughtful, open to feedback, and willing to consult when needed.

Is supervision part of professional development at HoneyTree?

Yes. Our goal is to help you build confidence, clinical judgment, and a sustainable approach to counseling while providing quality care to clients and families.

Do interns need to provide Christian counseling?

HoneyTree offers Christian counseling when requested by clients. Interns must be comfortable supporting clients who wish to incorporate their faith into counseling while respecting each client's beliefs and values.

Is this a W-2 position?

Yes. This is a W-2 employee position.

How is therapy work compensated?

Therapy sessions are compensated on a per-session basis. The same per-session rate applies to sessions conducted in school and office settings ($50 per session).

Is travel time paid?

Yes. Travel time between a school and HoneyTree's office is paid at $16 per hour. Travel time must be tracked and paid in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour requirements.

Are there opportunities to increase my hours and earnings?

Yes. This is a part-time role with the opportunity to grow as school-based partnerships develop and your office caseload expands. Growth will depend on referral volume, client needs, school placements, and your availability.

What support does HoneyTree provide?

HoneyTree provides a furnished office, TherapyNotes EHR, practice systems and administrative support, assistance with insurance credentialing, marketing support, referrals as available, and weekly clinical supervision. Our goal is to help you focus on clinical work while developing a consistent caseload and growing professionally.
