Paid Clinical Counseling Internship in Maryland

At HoneyTree Therapy Center, we believe internship should be more than completing required hours. It should be a place where you’re supported, challenged, and encouraged as you grow into the therapist you are becoming.

We are currently accepting master’s-level Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling interns on a rolling basis for our private practice internship program.

Our greatest need is interns who are passionate about working with children and teens and helping young people navigate anxiety, depression, self-esteem challenges, life transitions, and other emotional challenges.

Previous clinical experience is preferred but not required.

    We are not looking for a perfectly polished or rehearsed response. We want to get to know the person behind the application — your personality, your perspective, and what makes you you.

    Please answer the following question somewhere in your cover letter:

    “What is one thing you think is important for me to know about you that I would not learn from your resume?”

    There is no right or wrong answer. We are interested in learning about your experiences, values, personality, and the things that have shaped who you are.

    Your cover letter does not need to only answer that question. Feel free to use it as an opportunity to introduce yourself and share anything you feel would help us get to know you better.

  • What graduate programs do you accept?

    We accept students enrolled in:

    • Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs

    • School Counseling programs

    • Closely related counseling programs that align with LCPC supervision requirements

    We are unable to accept Social Work students (MSW/LMSW/LCSW tracks) because we cannot provide the required social work supervision.

  • How many hours are required?

    Interns must maintain a minimum schedule of 25 hours per week.

    What are typical hours?

    HoneyTree is open Sunday through Friday and closed Saturdays.

    Because we primarily serve children and teens, many appointments occur after school and after work.

    Interns have flexibility in creating their schedule while maintaining consistency for clients.

    Is in-person work required?

    Yes. Interns must be willing to provide in-person therapy.

  • What clients will I work with?

    Interns primarily work with children and teens.

    Are sessions one hour?

    Yes. Sessions are typically one hour.

    How does documentation work?

    HoneyTree uses TherapyNotes EHR, which makes documentation efficient and manageable. Interns complete notes promptly following sessions.

  • Who provides supervision?

    Supervision is provided by Gabrielle Barrington, LCPC, Board Approved Supervisor.

  • Do interns need to provide Christian counseling?

    HoneyTree offers Christian counseling when requested by clients. Interns must be comfortable supporting clients who wish to incorporate their faith into counseling while respecting each client's beliefs and values.

  • Are interns paid?

    Yes. Interns are paid $35/hour for clinical sessions.
